To Rt Hon Jacqui Smith MP
Yahya Al Faifi was persecuted
in Saudi Arabia for conducting trade union activities, where trade unions
are illegal, and forced to flee in 2004 with most of his family to safety
in Britain.
While in Britain Yahya has engaged fully with his local community actively
supporting British and Irish trade unionists. He has joined the Communications
Workers Union and been made an honorary member of the National Union of Mineworkers
as well as winning the support of the Wales TUC, RMT regional council, South
Wales NUM, Cardiff Trades Union Council, Swansea Trades Council and many more
trade unions.
Yahya is appealing against a decision by the Home Office to refuse him the
right of appeal. Were he to be forced to return to Saudi Arabia he would face
the threat of imprisonment, torture or murder.
We, the undersigned, call upon the Rt Hon Jacqui Smith, MP Secretary of State
for the Home Office to grant Yahya Al Faifi and his family the right to remain
in the UK on compassionate grounds.
